Where's Waldo? is a media franchise created by British illustrator Martin Handford. It debuted in 1987 with the publication of Where's Waldo?, which introduced readers to Waldo, a distinctively dressed traveler embarking on “a world-wide hike.” The book was followed by Find Waldo Now (1988) and The Great Waldo Search (1989).
As the series expanded, so did its cast, adding characters such as Wizard Whitebeard, Wenda, Woof, Odlaw, and the Waldo Watchers. Additional titles were released over the years, including Where's Waldo in Hollywood, The Wonder Book, The Great Picture Hunt!, and The Incredible Paper Chase.
By the early 1990s, Waldo had become a major pop culture phenomenon, inspiring a wave of “Waldo-mania.” The franchise broadened to include activity books, video games, toys, games, magazines, a newspaper comic strip, and two animated television series.
The books have sold more than 86-million copies worldwide in over 33 languages.
