1997 "Special Edition" cover
The book was originally published as a 12.5" Γ 10.1" hardback. Since then, it has been reissued in several formats and sizes, including paperback editions and "mini" editions that included a magnifying glass.
Find Waldo Now was retitled to Where's Waldo Now and re-released in 1997 along side the other original Where's Waldo? books in an updated "special edition" to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the series. The special edition moved the location of Waldo in each scene and inserted new characters to spot β including Woof, Wenda, Wizard Whitebeard, Odlaw and the Waldo Watchers. In each of the special edition books there was also a new "person who appears in every scene" (in this book that person is a woman with curly blonde hair and a blue top). The overall design of Waldo was also updated to match the more current character model. This version has since become the standard second edition version β replacing the original version for subsequent releases despite removing the "Special Edition" branding.
A third edition was released in 2014 as an anniversary "Deluxe Editions." This edition featured "new searches," updated artwork, and a collectable poster. Each page had fold out flaps to reveal additional checklists of things to spot in each scene; this also revealed what was behind the the book in the upper-left corner of each scene. The βDeluxe Editionβ revised some of the original artwork to remove or modify some violent and culturally insensitive content. The most notable change for the third edition is that the "End of the Crusades" scenes was changed to "Chaos at the Castle," removing the crosses on the knights, and changing the Middle Eastern caricatures and overall setting of the piece.
Adaptations[]
The book was adapted into a 2012 mobile game by Gamesloft.
Several of the scenes were the basis for episodes of the 1991 Where's Waldo? television series. "The Future" was adapted into "Ahead of the Future," "On Tour with the Vikings" was adapted into "Viking Fling," "The Last Days of the Aztecs" was adapted into "The Land of the Lost Pyramid," and elements of *The Riddle of the Pyramids" and "Fun and Games in Ancient Rome" were integrated into "The Living Exhibits."
Notes[]
- The book features the scene "Being a Pirate," Waldo would rejoin pirates in the scene "Among the Pirates" found in The Magnificent Poster Book! (which was re-released in The Great Picture Hunt as "Pirate Panorama").
